St. John’s Wort (Hypericum perforatum) has antibacterial, antidepressant, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, and pain-relieving properties. This herb’s ability to fight depression also makes it useful in treating fatigue, and its ability to relieve pain makes it helpful in treating vocal pain and laryngitis associated with fibromyalgia. Chinese medicine uses it in a gargle solution for tonsillitis and a lotion for skin irritations. Homeopathic remedies include those for nervous system issues, depression, and asthma.
-Studies have shown that St. John's Wort is more effective for wound healing than placebo or calendula. Clinical studies have found that an ointment prepared by mixing fresh St. John's wort flowers with olive oil dramatically accelerates the healing of burns.
-The most common use of St. John’s Wort is in the treatment of depression. This herb is often described as a “natural Prozac.”
