Mullein (Verbascum densiflorum) is an herb native to regions bordering the Mediterranean Sea and Ethiopia. Over time, it has naturalized in moister areas of Europe and North America as a roadside weed. Mullein has been used to remedy respiratory problems like cough, bronchitis & asthma. Externally, it is used for earaches, middle ear infections and insect bites. 

-Mullein relieves upper respiratory congestion by soothing injured mouth and throat areas. It also contains compounds that act on the central nervous system to move mucus out of the body. 

-In Germany, mullein flowers are steeped in warm olive oil with garlic cloves and then strained to remedy ear infections. It notably coats and soothes the inner lining of the ear, making it a helpful treatment in managing pain caused by inflammation.

Potential Allergen: Some species of mullein may cause contact dermatitis, a skin reaction that can cause itching, rash, and irritation. If you have sensitive skin or are prone to allergic reactions, do a patch skin test before using mullein on your skin.
