Honeybush Tea

Honeybush is a South African herbal tea made from the Cyclopia plant. Like rooibos or red bush tea, it grows only in South Africa. The name comes from the scent of Cyclopia yellow flowers, which smell similar to honey.

It's closely related to rooibos or red bush tea and has a similar but sweeter taste. The two are often blended to make rooibos honeybush tea.  

In South Africa, honeybush tea has been traditionally used to treat coughs and symptoms of menopause and aid digestion.

Honeybush tea has been used for treating lung and breathing-related diseases such as tuberculosis and catarrh.

Antioxidants in honeybush tea may help scavenge free radicals and prevent many different diseases, provide anti-aging benefits and boost immune system.

Studies showed that honeybush may help fight obesity by lowering blood fat and bad cholesterol.

Honeybush may be one of the best herbal teas for fighting the signs of aging. Studies showed that honeybush extract might help reduce wrinkles, improving skin elasticity and hydration.

Honeybush tea may have phytoestrogen properties and naturally support hormonal balance. It may help regulate the menstrual period, reduce the risk of osteoporosis, and help relieve menopausal symptoms. Furthermore, studies showed that it may stimulate milk production in breast-feeding women.

Caution: there have been reports of microbial contamination during the fermentation process — steeping the tea in at least 140°F (60°C) water should ensure its safety for consumption. Additionally, it’s best to consult your healthcare provider before drinking the tea, as it may interact with drug-metabolizing enzymes and affect the therapeutic window of drugs. It may also affect the bioavailability of other dietary antioxidants.
