Chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla) is one of the oldest medicinal herbs known to mankind.

Chamomile has been used in alternative medicine as a possibly effective aid in treating anxiety, upset stomach, colic (intestinal gas), or diarrhea. Chamomile may also effectively treat or prevent mouth ulcers caused by chemotherapy or radiation treatment. Chamomile may have been combined with other plants or extracts in a specific preparation to treat these conditions.

Chamomile tea is widely used to treat sleep disorders like insomnia. Due to its sedative effects, chamomile acts as a mild tranquilizer.

Chamomile has been shown in a recent study to treat depression and anxiety.

It is also commonly applied to the skin for pain and swelling (inflammation) and included as a germ-killer in ointments, creams, and gels used to treat cracked nipples, sore gums, and irritation of the skin. Some people put Roman chamomile in a steam bath and inhale it for sinus inflammation, hay fever, and sore throat

Chamomile is deemed generally safe for pregnant women, babies & children.

Caution: Taking this product with other drugs that make you sleepy can worsen this effect. Ask your doctor before taking chamomile with a sleeping pill, narcotic pain medicine, muscle relaxer, or medicine for anxiety, depression, or seizures.

Potential Allergen: Chamomile may cause an allergic reaction in people sensitive to the Asteraceae/Compositae family. This family includes ragweed, chrysanthemums, marigolds, and daisies.

Avoid If: Using chamomile with other herbal/health supplements can cause drowsiness.

As with all herbs, please do your research before use!
