HIBISCUS
Rich in antioxidants, blood pressure, heart disease, high cholesterol, high in vitamin C
Caution: Hibiscus is often intercropped with peanuts and may produce a response in those with severe peanut allergies. If you take any medications, please consult your healthcare provider before use, as wormwood interacts with certain medications.
Potential Allergen: Hibiscus is a member of the Malvaceae family and may cause allergic reactions in people allergic to other plants in this family, such as hollyhocks. Hibiscus also contains tannins and may cause a response in people with a tannin allergy.
Avoid If: Pregnant; known as the emmenagogue effect, hibiscus tea and extracts can encourage uterine blood flow to help stimulate menstruation.
Clove Buds
Cloves are best known as a sweet and aromatic spice but have also been used in traditional medicine. Cloves are high in antioxidants, including eugenol, which can help reduce oxidative stress. Studies show that cloves may promote oral health thanks to their antimicrobial properties, which may help kill harmful bacteria. It is also known to protect the liver.
Caution: If you take any medications, please consult your healthcare provider before use, as clove buds can interact with certain medications.
Potential Allergen: Although rare, clove buds can cause an allergic reaction if you are allergic to this herb. You must seek medical attention immediately if you have a severe allergic reaction.
Avoid Consumption of clove buds if pregnant, nursing, or given to children.
Star Anise
Aides with: flu symptoms, digestive issues, viral, fungal, and bacterial infections
Caution: Star Anise may also interact with certain medications, including birth control pills, estrogen, and tamoxifen. Speak to your healthcare provider if you take these or other medicines before consuming anise.
Potential Allergen: Anise might cause allergic reactions in some people who are allergic to other plants similar to anise. Like anise, plants include asparagus, caraway, celery, coriander, cumin, dill, and fennel.
Avoid If: You are pregnant or nursing until you speak to your healthcare provider.
Cinnamon Sticks
Cinnamon has been found to diminish some significant risks related to heart disease, such as cholesterol levels, triglyceride levels, and blood pressure. Furthermore, it has been clinically observed to significantly boost sensitivity to insulin, potentially helping to standardize blood sugar.
Caution: If you take any medications, please consult your healthcare provider before use, as clove buds can interact with certain medications.
Potential Allergen: A small percentage of people experience an allergic reaction after ingesting or coming into contact with cinnamon. Spice allergies make up about 2 percent of allergies and are often underdiagnosed. This is because spice allergies can be hard to detect in skin and blood tests.
Avoid If: You are on medication for diabetes as Cinnamon naturally lowers blood sugar.
